Placement Criteria for Referrals

4 Acre Woods is a sober living home in Conroe, TX, offering a supportive, peer-run recovery environment for mature men committed to long-term sobriety from addiction of any kind. We provide a peaceful, structured, 12-step oriented community for men seeking accountability, camaraderie, and stability after initial treatment.

Our home is not a clinical facility — we are a community of peers living and growing in recovery together.

​

Basic Criteria

​

  • Primary addiction may be alcohol, drugs, or polysubstance.
    We welcome men recovering from addiction to any substance.

  • Minimum of 30 days continuous sobriety at time of admission.
    Detox must be completed and recovery process begun prior to entry.

  • Adult men who are mature and serious about maintaining sobriety.
    No age minimum, but we serve men ready for a peaceful, serious recovery lifestyle.

  • Medically and psychiatrically stable.
    No active psychosis, mania, or unstable psychiatric conditions. Individuals must be able to function in a non-clinical residential environment.

  • Capable of fully managing their own prescribed medications.
    No medication supervision provided — residents must be fully independent; though we will support secure storage for evidence-based pharmaceuticals shown to improve recovery outcomes or prescribed for mental health.

  • Able to manage personal care, hygiene, meals, and house responsibilities without assistance.

  • Committed to a minimum 90 day stay.

Automatic Exclusions

​

  • Registered sex offenders.

  • History of rape, murder, or violent crimes involving weapons.

  • Diagnosed Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) or Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD).

  • Active, untreated PTSD with severe behavioral symptoms impairing community living.

  • Significant recent history of interpersonal violence or uncontrollable anger outbursts.

Mental Health & Co-Occurring Diagnoses

​

  • Stable, well-managed co-occurring mental health conditions (e.g. depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder) are acceptable if the individual is under appropriate clinical care and functional in a peer-living environment.

  • Individuals must be medication-compliant and actively engaged in their mental health recovery.

Behavioral & Recovery Commitments​

​

  • Active participation in a 12-step program is required.
    Residents must attend meetings regularly and engage in 12-step work.

  • Willing and able to live cooperatively in a shared environment.
    Participation in house meetings,household chores, and maintaining shared spaces is required.

  • Willing to follow house rules, including curfews, meeting attendance, no overnight guests, and zero tolerance for substance use on or off property.

  • Financially capable of paying rent and managing personal expenses.
    (Some sliding scale or assistance may be available, but basic financial stability is required.)

  • Residents with non-traditional or odd work shifts are welcome if they can fully participate in house life and recovery commitments around their schedule.
